I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. We’ve been having a strong week on the ice in all aspects, so let’s keep the good times rolling. There’s a great 13-game slate in the NHL today, which includes early afternoon action. There’s just one game to get this started, but we’ve actually targeted that game with our player props. We’re trusting Minnesota to run wild and get our bankroll a boost to begin the day to then rollover into our second play. There were a lot of games to break down, so let’s dive in.

Along with our player props, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action.

Kirill Kaprizov over 3.5 shots on goal (-160)

Kirill Kaprizov has been a target for us already this season, and came through several times last year. He remains just as consistent, and now has a prime matchup against the Anaheim Ducks on home ice. This matchup gets the whole day of hockey started, and it’s projected to be a comfortable win for the Minnesota Wild. It’s likely Kaprizov has multiple points once again, but we’re targeting his shots on goal prop instead. If you’ve been following, you’ll know our frustration with stat-keepers this season, but this is such a perfect spot, we’ll likely get several shots above just 4.

Kaprizov just recorded 3 points against the Edmonton Oilers. However, he surprisingly had just 3 shots on goal. That was one of the few times all season, and we’re expecting a great bounce-back game. He’s hit this prop in every home game this season except for 3, and the Ducks are the ideal opponent. They’ve been terrible this season for several reasons, one of which is allowing too many shots. Anaheim allows the most shots per game overall (37.3/game), which gets even worse on the road (38.5/game). Kaprizov was part of those struggles as he’s already faced the Ducks earlier this season. That was out in Anaheim and he recorded a whopping 9 shots on goal, so we should expect at least 4 more today.

J.T. Miller over 0.5 assists (-125)

We’re heading up over the border into Canada for our second play. Assists have been the focus for us recently, and it’s paid off. This time we’re targeting a skater than many fans may not have heard of before. The Vancouver Canucks have not been having a great season, but J.T. Miller has been one of their bright spots. We also love teammate Elias Pettersson for this same prop, but we’re going to focus on Miller for several reasons. Firstly, he’s coming off a season in which he had 67 assists, the 6th-most in the NHL. He currently has 24 points through 24 games, 13 of which have been assists.

Prior to the Canucks’ most recent game against the Florida Panthers, Miller had recorded at least 1 assist in 6 straight games and in their last 4 home games. That’s where they’ll be when they take on the Arizona Coyotes tonight. The Coyotes have been right alongside the Ducks in terms of one of the worst teams in hockey, and the Canucks have feasted on them. Not only did they beat them 5-1 twice and 7-1 last season, Miller specifically had incredible performances. He recorded an assist in each of the first 2 meetings, and had a ridiculous 5-assist game in the most recent matchup. We need only 1 from him tonight, and there’s no reason he shouldn’t deliver.
