After Friday’s game was suspended in the 4th inning due to weather, the Mets and Red Sox finished that game on Saturday before playing their regularly scheduled game on Saturday night. The somewhat strange day saw the teams split wins as the Red Sox look to win the 3-game set with a win on Sunday. At this point, it does not look like anything is salvageable for the Mets, but the Red Sox are very much alive in the AL wild card. The baseball week is capped off with a good one at Fenway on Sunday night.

Red Sox ML (-145)

The Red Sox have enjoyed a very nice stretch of baseball since the end of June. Since June 30, Boston is 12-5 and they are 6-1 in their last 7 games at home. Unfortunately for them, of those 5 losses, 4 of them have come in the last 7 games. The Red Sox snapped a 3-game losing streak on Saturday and will come out looking to return to the form that led to them winning 11 of 13 games prior to that losing streak.

The Mets present a good opportunity for the Red Sox to return to their strong early-July form. This Mets team is a shell of their preseason expectation, potential division-winning team. They just cannot get out of their own way. On paper, they should be good, but they have not executed. The Red Sox are the better team in better form right now and more reliable to bring this one home.

Under 10.5 (-135)

The under has been more prominent for the Mets both this season as a whole and recently. Their over-under record on the season is 40-54-4 including 2-7-1 in their last 10 games. The Mets just cannot be relied on to produce, and when the bats go quiet, the under has a good chance. During the Red Sox’s strong recent stretch, they minimized the damage of opponents. If run prevention is their recipe for success, they will look to capitalize on that Sunday.

If Boston can hold New York hitters in check on Sunday as they have with several opponents this month, then it would be up to Red Sox hitters to carry the weight of a high total if the over were to hit. While they are certainly capable of doing so, their past week showed enough volatility to not feel comfortable counting on them to do the heavy lifting in a high-scoring game. This matchup sets up well for the under.

Triston Casas 2+ total bases (+125)

Triston Casas appears to be coming into his own which is very good news for the Red Sox. Casas struggled a little bit out of the gate as a highly anticipated prospect in the organization. As this season has gone on, he is getting more and more comfortable against Major League pitching. In Boston’s 8-6 win over the Mets on Saturday night, Casas took future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer deep twice. This is a hitter who is seeing the ball well right now and has the confidence to match.

In Casas’ first 183 at-bats of the season, he hit .197 with 7 home runs and 19 RBI’s. In his last 88 at-bats, Casas is hitting .341 with 7 home runs and 16 RBI’s. He has made a difference in a big way in this series as he is 4 for 6 with 2 home runs, 3 RBI’s, 5 runs scored, and 12 total bases. This plus money is great value.
