MLB Betting Explained

There are many ways in which you can bet on an MLB game, and with 2,430 Regular Season games, plus the MLB Playoffs, you won’t be short of opportunity throughout the MLB season. The main three ways to bet on an MLB match is through the Money Line, Spreads and Totals markets. In Baseball, the spread is known as the Run Line, meaning the favorite will have to concede runs, usually -1.5 and the underdog will gain runs usually +1.5. Unlike with NFL spreads, the spread itself won’t change in baseball, but instead the odds will do instead. Here at Pickswise we analyze every game of the MLB season and give our expert view on which side of these lines we like, and why. Types Of MLB Betting

There are countless ways in which you can bet on an MLB game, from the winner of the match to very specific player stats-based prop bets such as hits, home runs and strikeouts. Check out some of the most popular types of MLB betting markets below.

MLB Money Line Betting

MLB Money Line Betting is the simplest way in which you can bet on an MLB game. A bet on the Money Line is simply a bet on which team will win the match. With their no option of a game ending in a tie (with extra innings played) in the MLB, then there are simply two different outcomes in an MLB Money Line market, Team A to win or Team B to win. That also means your bet will either win, or lose your bet with no pushes or ties possible.

MLB Spread Betting – MLB Run Line Betting

MLB Spread betting is often known as the Run Line. It is most similar to the NHL Puck Line, where the favorite will be given typically a – 1.5 puck line and the underdog a +1.5 puck line, with the odds, rather than the lines changing as they do in the NFL or NBA. With MLB Spreads you are betting on either the favorite to win by 2 or more runs, or for the underdog to win, or to lose by 1 run. The Run lines can change from game to game, with some being +/- 0.5 runs and others +/- 2.5 runs, depending on how favored one team is over the other. The run line will always have a .5 on the end to stop there from being a tie or a push so that one side will always cover and the other will lose.

MLB Over/Under Betting – MLB Totals Betting

MLB Over/Under betting, often known as the MLB Totals markets, is a bet on the total number of runs scored, combining the two teams’ runs, in a given game. The line will be set by the sportsbooks and will typically range anywhere from Over/Under 7 runs right up to over under 12 runs. Of course there are cases where the line can fall out of these parameters, as each game and the expected number of runs will be different depending on team form, game conditions and pitcher matchups. If you bet the overs on a 8.5 run line, you need there to be 9 or more runs scored to win, if you bet the unders on the same line, 8 or fewer runs in the match will see you cash your ticket. The MLB Over/Unders market is a great way to bet on a game if you don’t like either side of the spread or money line, or you see a high/low scoring game on the cards.

MLB Player Proposition Bets

MLB Player Prop Bets are a type of bet in which you are betting on the proposition of an occurrence, or non occurrence of a specific player based stat or performance. As with most sports, MLB Player Props mainly focus on the key statistical performance metrics such as Home Runs, Hits, Strikeouts or even Stolen Bases for certain players. There are many ways in which you can bet on player prop bets on every game of the MLB season. Our experts are on hand daily to hand out the best free analysis and MLB Prop Bets page for all of today’s action.

MLB Team Proposition Bets

Much like MLB Player Prop Bets, MLB Team Prop Bets are a type of bet in which you are betting on the proposition of an occurrence, or non occurrence of a specific event. With MLB team prop bets you are betting on one team or another, rather than the performance of both teams, such as the spread, points total or money line. One perfect example of this would be the Team Runs Total, here you’re betting on an over under points total for one team. This added flexibility allows you to bet on one team if you like them, but are unsure on the spread, or unsure if the opposition will score enough points to take the over. Other examples could be the Team To Score First, First Team To 3 Runs, or even a team to win the first 5-innings rather than the entire match, which can eliminate the use of bullpen losses. MLB Live Betting

While MLB games can take a couple of hours and are often played at a slow pace, the possibility of a grand slam home run or a go ahead single is what makes MLB Live Betting exciting. MLB Live betting is when you bet on an MLB game once the match itself has started. The odds and lines are updated in real time to reflect the on-field action. While you wont get a full list of MLB markets available on the live betting tab, you’ll have all of the main markets such as Money Line, Spreads and Totals alongside a select number of props such as Race to 5 Runs, or individual innings winners.

MLB ATS Betting

MLB ATS betting is MLB against the spread betting. In baseball this is known as the run line, where one team (the favorite) will start with either -1.5 runs or sometimes -2.5 runs ATS, depending on how big a favorite they are, and the underdog will start with +1.5 or +2.5 runs. Here you’re betting on the lines rather than the winner of the match itself, the underdog can lose 7-6 but cover ATS and cash your bet. MLB ATS betting is one of the most popular methods of betting on baseball as at times there is little value in taking a money line favorite, and too much risk in taking the underdog to win outright.

Baseball Betting Tips

Baseball tips in a betting sense are exactly the same as a baseball pick, or baseball prediction. In essence its an expert tipping which side of the line they line. Its more commonly used throughout Europe and in horse racing betting, but is still used by certain sharps and experts.
