In one of the oddest quirks of this season’s NFL schedule, the Washington Commanders are set to play the New York Giants for the second straight game. The Commanders had their late bye week after fighting out a 20-20 tie at MetLife Stadium in Week 13, and return to action against the same team. The Giants did have a game last week, another NFC East contest which they lost 48-22 against the Eagles. Our expert has picks, predictions and best bets for this quick rematch between the Giants and Commanders at FedEx Field on Sunday Night Football (8:20pm ET, NBC).

Be sure not to miss any of our NFL picks for Week 15 — we went 11-2 on sides in Week 14!

NFL New York Giants vs Washington Commanders expert predictions

The NFL Least is no more — the Giants and Commanders have identical 7-5-1 records but occupy 3rd and 4th place in the NFC East with no chance of catching the Eagles and little chance of reeling in the Cowboys above them. A 7-5-1 record heading into Week 15 would have been good enough to put them top of the AFC South or NFC South, but sometimes the luck of the draw does matter in the NFL, There are still wild-card spots to fight for, though, and all 3 NFC wild-card teams would have come from the NFC East if the season had ended last week. Only one team can win on Sunday, though (or neither team, as happened last time).

The Commanders have a 6-1-1 record in their last 8 games, with the clear highlight being their 32-21 win over the previously undefeated Eagles. The Giants’ wins were much more front-loaded, and they are 1-4-1 in their last 6. They should not fear this trip after the close recent game, though, and they are 3-2 on the road this season.

New York Giants vs Washington Commanders expert picks

We have got 2 great NFL picks for the game between the Giants and Commanders.

Giants vs Commanders point spread pick: Giants +4.5 (-110)

We’ve got an NFC East game with massive stakes for Sunday Night Football as the New York Giants travel to take on the Washington Commanders. Both teams are 7-5-1 and need this one to keep pace in the NFC playoff race. The Giants have stumbled a bit recently as they’ve picked up 3 losses and a tie in their past 4 games. Everybody has long since written off their hot start as a complete fluke, but I’m taking the points with the underdog G-Men. For starters these teams just played each other a couple of weeks ago, and they couldn’t have looked much more even while playing to a 20-20 tie.

New York’s 3 losses in that span came against the Lions, Cowboys and Eagles, who are the hottest teams in the NFC right now. The criticism of the Giants and Daniel Jones has got a bit out of control, and now is the time to buy low. I like Taylor Heinicke, but he’s been starting to regress lately. In Washington’s last game before their bye, he took 5 sacks against this same Giants pass-rush. The week before that he threw for only 138 yards against an abysmal Falcons defense.

Their big upset over the Eagles on Monday Night Football about 5 weeks back was great, but outside of that Washington hasn’t beaten anybody notable. Everybody has been so quick to declare the Giants frauds that nobody has stopped to ask whether Washington is actually any good. I think the answer is no, and 4.5 points is way too big of a spread for teams that aren’t far apart at all. Give me the G-Men plus the points.

Giants vs Commanders over/under totals pick: Over 40.5 (-110)

The over makes sense in this game. When these teams played just 2 weeks ago there were 40 points scored, and neither offense played particularly well. We need only 1 more point than in that one, and that was a game which saw each quarterback sacked at least 4 times and each averaged less than 7 yards per pass attempt. Washington managed to bottle up Saquon Barkley as he tallied only 63 yards on 18 carries, and despite all that they pretty much equaled this total. Terry McLaurin had 105 yards and a touchdown, and he has historically torched this Giants team.

New York is banged up on defense, and it’s still unclear whether or not Washington is going to get Chase Young back for this one. Heinicke struggled with the blitzes Wink Martindale sent at him in the first matchup, and I don’t see why that would change. The Giants’ only real offense in the first meeting was Daniel Jones’ legs, and Washington should be more prepared to take his rushing out of the game on Sunday.
