The Titans are sitting at 5-2, but it’s hard to really judge how good this team is. Tennessee has been extremely fortunate in one-possession games this season and is now without Ryan Tannehill at quarterback. The Titans might get a dose of reality on Sunday night, as they’ll take on one of the league’s best offenses in Kansas City. The Chiefs are fresh off a bye week and looking to keep pace with the Bills for the top seed in the AFC.

Our NFL expert has picks, predictions and best bets for this matchup, so let’s break it all down.

NFL Week 9 Tennessee Titans vs Kansas City Chiefs prediction

This is a game that features an extreme mismatch between these offenses, especially at the quarterback position. The Titans are extremely focused on their ground attach, which they’ll need to succeed in order to stay within reach on Sunday night. On the other side, the Chiefs passing game is absolutely rolling at the moment and that shouldn’t change in this one. Let’s get into our expert’s predictions for this matchup.

Tennessee Titans vs Kansas City Chiefs expert picks

We’ve got 2 standout NFL picks for this week’s clash between the Titans and Chiefs.

Tennessee Titans vs Kansas City Chiefs point spread pick: Chiefs -12.5 (-110)

I never usually like to lay this many points in the NFL, but I lean toward the favorite here for a few reasons. The Titans are 5-2, but they certainly don’t deserve to be. Tennessee’s wins have come against the Colts twice, the Commanders, the Texans and the Raiders. Not exactly a murderer’s row. It’s unclear if QB Ryan Tannehill is even going to play here after he was downgraded to a DNP at Thursday’s practice, but even assuming that he does he clearly won’t be 100%. If it’s Malik Willis under center again it’ll likely be a complete blowout, as Tennessee’s coaching staff let Willis attempt only 1 pass in the second half last week.

That’s not a recipe for much success on the road against Patrick Mahomes. Even with Tannehill out there the Titans’ passing attack has looked anemic this season, and they surely won’t be able to keep up with the Chiefs coming off a bye. Tannehill has topped 181 yards in just 1 of his past 5 starts, and now he’ll be hobbled by an ankle injury. On the flip side Andy Reid offenses always come out of the bye looking extra sharp, and I’d expect more of the same. Kansas City beat the 49ers by 21 on the road their last time out, so they’re definitely capable of covering a spread this large.

Tennessee Titans vs Kansas City Chiefs Over/Under totals pick: Over 45 (-110)

The Chiefs covering the spread likely correlates nicely with the over. In 3 of Kansas City’s 5 wins this season they’ve dropped at least 41 points, so they could easily send this game over by themselves. The Chiefs have already been looking dynamic on offense, and now they have an intriguing new weapon to add to the mix after acquiring WR Kadarius Toney in a trade with the Giants. Toney will make his Chiefs debut, and I’m excited to see how Reid uses him.

Tennessee’s defense isn’t actually anything special, they’ve just had the luxury of facing a bunch of struggling offenses. The last (and only) time they played a top-tier offense, they gave up 41 to the Bills. They’re due to get exposed, and key defender Jeffery Simmons has yet to practice this week. The Titans are elite at stopping the run however, so the Chiefs should be passing a lot right from the get-go.
