Both Oklahoma State and Notre Dame had College Football Playoff aspirations heading into the final day of the regular season. However, the Cowboys lost to Baylor in the Big 12 Championship and wouldn’t have gotten in anyway based on results later in the day. Notre Dame needed either Alabama, Michigan, or Cincinnati to lose. None did.

This year’s game takes place on Saturday, January 1. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 pm ET, and it will be the 51st edition of the famous New Year’s Six bowl game.
The Fiesta Bowl will take place at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The stadium is home to the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals, as well. The Fiesta Bowl been held at State Farm Stadium since 2007, when Boise State shockingly upset Oklahoma in one of the most thrilling bowl games of all time.
The 2022 Fiesta Bowl pits the Oklahoma State Cowboys against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Oklahoma State is ranked No. 9 in the College Football Playoff rankings, while Notre Dame was the first team left out of the College Football Playoff at No. 5. The teams were chosen by the College Football Playoff selection committee and oddsmakers currently have the Fighting Irish as -2.5 favorites.
Notre Dame is 11-1, having lost only to Cincinnati. Oklahoma State was also 11-1 heading into the Big 12 Championship (it lost at Iowa State 24-21 on October 23), but the Cowboys fell to Baylor 21-16 in a game that came down to their final play from the Bears’ 1-yard line with 24 seconds left.
This year’s Fiesta Bowl will be broadcast live on ESPN. The game takes place on Saturday, January 1 and kicks off at 1:00 pm ET.

Last season, the 2021 Fiesta Bowl saw No. 12 Iowa State defeat No. 25 Oregon 34-17. The game took place on January 2, 2021 and was attended by a grand total of 0 fans. Yes, the 2021 Fiesta Bowl was played behind closed doors because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The current favorite is Note Dame, which is giving 2.5 points to Oklahoma State. That is likely due to oddsmakers’ respect for the Fighting Irish’s experience in NY6 bowl games and their current 7-game winning streak. Oklahoma State has lost twice since Notre Dame last lost.
