I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. We’re down to the last Friday of the MLB regular season. With it being the final weekend, there are still postseason berths to be clinched. There are also teams that have shut down players for the season. By predicting if a run will be scored in the 1st inning or not, we can profit in about 15 minutes. It’s just 6 outs to glory and we’ve targeted the best spots for Friday’s slate. Along with these early plays, be sure to check out our MLB picks for all of today’s games.

Let’s take a closer look at my favorite YRFI/NRFI bets for today.

Miami Marlins vs Milwaukee Brewers: NRFI (-160)

We’re going to start out with a battle of aces on the mound. There are several of them going on Friday night, and this game features two of the National League’s finest.

Marlins ace Sandy Alcantara is all but a shoo-in for the NL Cy Young and rightfully so. Despite the lineup supporting him being lackluster, he has still managed to dominate. His 5 complete games are more than any other team this season, and one of them was against the league-best Dodgers. Alcantara hasn’t faced the Brewers this season, but he regularly shuts down the Braves and Mets as they’re divisional opponents.

Milwaukee ace Corbin Burnes is the reigning NL Cy Young winner and has been stellar in his own right. He faced the Marlins earlier in the season and kept them scoreless in the 1st inning. Since then, Miami’s lineup has been missing all of its key hitters and is the lowest-scoring team in the 1st inning. Just like Alcantara, he’s kept some of the league’s best lineups in check. That includes the Dodgers along with the Mets and Cardinals in back-to-back starts. This play may not exactly be outside the box, but it doesn’t mean it isn’t worth it.

Colorado Rockies vs Los Angeles Dodgers: YRFI (+105)

There’s been a lot of mention of the Dodgers thus far, so let’s include them in our next play. There is incredible value in this spot because ace Clayton Kershaw is on the mound.

That would normally suggest the opposition should have a hard time scoring. However, the Rockies have been his kryptonite. Not only do they smash lefties overall, they have scored in the 1st inning against Kershaw specifically both times they faced him this season. Even if you don’t want to trust that trend to continue, Rockies starter Chad Kuhl is freely allowing runs in the 1st inning.

He’s done so in 9 of his last 11 starts, and you can see how he’s been printing money for us in past articles like this one or even another 2-0 night here. Much of the same logic applies, but he’s just been awful. During that streak was a start against the Dodgers in which LA scored 2 runs in the 1st inning. That hasn’t been difficult for them this season, as they have 3 NL MVP candidates leading off their lineup. With this being the series opener, it’s likely that Mookie Betts, Trea Turner and Freddie Freeman will all be active. Don’t let Kershaw’s name cause hesitation with this play: the Rockies have shown they can handle him.
