I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. Sundays may be all about the NFL for some, but after going 11-4 over my last 15 NHL player props, let’s make it a profitable day on the ice as well. There’s a slightly smaller slate with just 5 games on the board, but some great spots to target. Several skaters look set for big games, but being at home seems to have their prices inflated. Therefore, we’re going to target players with more value. I’ll be sure to give out those honorable mentions if you’re willing to pay the premium, but let’s dive into our official players.

Along with our player props, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action.

Andre Burakovsky over 0.5 points (-170)

Don’t look now, but the Seattle Kraken may cause some serious problems for teams vying for a postseason spot down the road. After taking down the Western Conference-leading Vegas Golden Knights on Friday night, they’ve now won 4 straight games. In fact, that’s brought them to 12-5-3 and behind only the Knights for the best record in the Pacific Division. One of the primary pieces of their success has been Andre Burakovsky. He came over from the Colorado Avalanche after winning the Stanley Cup last season. He just scored 2 goals against Vegas, who are the 3rd-best goaltending team in the NHL.

Now he and the Kraken get to take on the Anaheim Ducks, who have been abysmal in almost every regard. They’re allowing the most shots per game and the 2nd-most goals per game. With the way stat-keepers have been with shots on goal this season, we’re sticking with the point prop. Even if the Ducks weren’t allowing over 4 goals per game, Seattle’s offense has been on fire with Burakovsky leading the way. They’re scoring the 7th-most goals per game overall and the 5th-most on the road. The former Av has recorded 5 points in the Kraken’s last 2 games and scored a goal against the Ducks in the season opener, so expect another strong outing.

Josh Morrissey over 0.5 points (-130)

We’re targeting another lesser-known name here. When it comes to the Winnipeg Jets, the first skater that comes to mind is generally Kyle Connor. However, that’s also why he’s always very expensive for this prop, along with teammate Mark Scheifele. Instead, we’re going to target Josh Morrissey. He is actually the one leading the team in points with 20 in 19 games. Morrissey has been able to record over a point-per-game by jumping at the opportunity he’s been granted. He is now Connor’s right-hand man. Nikolaj Ehlers normally had the role of shot-taking and assist-man for Connor, but he’s on injured reserve due to hernia surgery.

You can get even great value on Morrissey by taking his assist prop. Of his 20 points, 16 of them have been assists. It makes sense as he’s averaging less than 2 shots per game, while Connor and Pierre-Luc Dubois are each averaging over 3 shots per game. Regardless, Morrissey and the Jets are taking on a Chicago Blackhawks team who have now lost 6 straight games. They’re allowing the 9th-most goals per game, and the Jets just put up 5 goals against a stout Dallas Stars defense on the road. If that wasn’t enough, this play is also about consistency. Morrissey has recorded a point in all but 4  games this season, and he has another great matchup tonight.

NHL player prop honorable mentions

Logan Couture & Erik Karlsson (SJ Sharks) to each record a point – Couture just had his 5-game point streak snapped, and Karlsson’s 30 points in 23 games are the 5th-most in the NHL and now face a Vancouver Canucks team on the second night of a back-to-back and allowing the 3rd-most goals per game.

Anze Kopitar (LA Kings) to record an assist – He and the Kings are facing an Ottawa Senators team allowing the 10th-most goals per game. Kopitar had 4 points in 2 games against them last season.

Joel Eriksson Ek (MIN Wild) over 2.5 shots on goal – The Arizona Coyotes are allowing the 3rd-most shots per game and Ek hit this prop in all 3 meetings last season.
