We’re two weeks into an 18-week season, so it’s time to see how the futures markets have changed already. Some of the candidates for certain awards have boosted their stock through Weeks 1 and 2 (Puka Nacua is the best example), while other expected frontrunners have had a rough start to the season (Joe Burrow, I’m looking directly at you). So, let’s take a look at the current standings for the MVP, Offensive Player of the Year and Offensive Rookie of the Year with my best bet for each market ahead of Week 3.

Coming into the season, it was Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts and Josh Allen as the frontrunners for the award. All three quarterbacks remain at the top, but there’s a new favorite after Week 2. Here are the odds for the MVP after Week 2 from Caesars Sportsbook.

NFL MVP Best Bet: Jalen Hurts (+900)
After Miami’s 2-0 start to the season, it wasn’t surprising to see Tua Tagovailoa’s name at the top of the MVP list. In Weeks 1 and 2 against the Chargers and Patriots, Tagovailoa passed for 715 yards and 4 touchdowns. He’s been the best quarterback through the first two weeks of the season, but Miami’s schedule will only get tougher. That’s why I believe Jalen Hurts has exceptional value at 9/1 odds. Hurts has had a relatively quiet start to the season as he’s only passed for 363 yards and 2 touchdowns, but he’s also rushed for 72 yards and 2 touchdowns.
He faced an elite Patriots defense in Week 1 and then had a short week ahead of Week 2 since they were featured in Thursday Night Football. The schedule has not been kind to him through the first few weeks, but that will change in Week 3 since their next four games are against the Buccaneers, Commanders, Rams and Jets. I expect Hurts’ odds to only get worse as the weeks go on.

To anyone holding a Nick Chubb Offensive Player of the Year ticket, I’m sorry. But the biggest news is the preseason favorite to win the award (Ja’Marr Chase at +1100) is now at +3000 heading into Week 3. Here are the odds for the Offensive Player of the Year after Week 2 from Caesars Sportsbook.

Admittedly, Chase at +3000 looks very appealing, but it’s his quarterback I’m worried about. Joe Burrow looked poor yet again in Week 2, and the Bengals have announced that he has reaggravated his calf injury. That will directly affect Chase, so I’m staying away from the Cincinnati WR1 for now. Instead, I’ve turned my attention to Tyreek Hill. The speedy wide receiver has 16 receptions for 255 yards and 3 touchdowns after Miami’s Week 2 win against the Patriots. If Tagovailoa stays healthy, the passing game will continue to be their main source of offense, which should give Hill plenty of action.
In my opinion, Hill is unlike other star receivers like Justin Jefferson and Amon-Ra St. Brown purely because of his speed. Defenses will double Jefferson and St. Brown, which could limit their usage, but with Hill, his speed will beat the double team each time. The Cheetah has excellent value heading into his Week 3 matchup against the Broncos.

The preseason favorite remains the favorite after Week 2. Bijan Robinson is running wild for the Falcons and is the rookie to beat, while Puka Nacua has shot up the list and Jahmyr Gibbs has fallen considerably. I’m riding the Puka Nacua wave. It’s been hard to tell the difference between him and Cooper Kupp on the field because Matthew Stafford has been targeting the rookie as much, or even more than Kupp. In his first two NFL games, Nacua had 25 receptions on 35 targets for 266 yards. That’s the most receptions by a rookie in their first two games in NFL history. And while you may think his role will diminish once Kupp returns in Week 5, Sean McVay has said otherwise. The Rams head coach announced that Nacua will remain a big part of the offense and not see his production decrease with Kupp’s return.
Fantasy owners who were lucky enough to pick him up after Week 1 are rejoicing after hearing the news, and so am I since I’ve already placed my Nacua for Offensive Rookie of the Year ticket. I’m expecting his odds to be closer to 5/1 in a week or two, so I’m getting the best value while I can.
