Welcome to another wonderful Wednesday of sport, Pickswise Nation. You may remember the horror of last Wednesday, when there were no major sports games at all, but we’re all good today with a 14-game MLB slate and an avalanche of afternoon action. Let’s get straight to making your next bet better!

About Last Night

Tremendous Tuesday on the diamond for Pickswise
The Pickswise MLB team had a fine day on Tuesday, going 9-6 on ML/RL plays (7-7-1 on totals), including cashing our 3-star play on the White Sox money line, giving us a 5-2 record with our last 7 Best Bets. JutPicks also went 2-0 on MLB player props. Across the ballparks, the Cubs picked up their 6th straight win, beating the Pirates 4-2, the Blue Jays hammered the Cardinals 10-3, the Red Sox slipped to .500 and last place in the AL East with an 8-3 loss to the Guardians and the Mets beat the Yankees 6-3 in the Subway Series. The big upsets came as the A’s beat the Astros 5-3 and the Nationals overcame the Dodgers for the second straight game, winning 8-3.

Today’s Slate

Early games across Major League Baseball
The majority of today’s baseball starting early, beginning with the Braves vs Phillies game at 12:35 pm ET. Astros vs A’s is on ESPN+ at 3:37 pm ET before the Yankees and Mets go at it again at 7:00 pm ET on ESPN. You can read all our previews for today’s MLB games.

Best Bet of the Day

MLB: Toronto Blue Jays -1.5 vs St. Louis Cardinals
7:07 pm ET

The Cardinals’ offense struggled against the Blue Jays without Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado last night, plating only 3 runs. However, it was their pitching staff that really let them down by allowing 10 runs. The Blue Jays should thrive once again in this game against Adam Wainwright, who has had a solid season with a 6-8 record and 3.40 ERA, but is a major regression candidate. His 4.48 xERA is nearly a full run higher than his actual ERA. It also helps Toronto that they are sending out one of their reliable arms in Kevin Gausman, who has pitched to a 3.00 ERA and 1.98 FIP this season. Being able to avoid the two most-productive bats in the Cardinals’ lineup gives Gausman a great opportunity to post a quality start. Read our full Cardinals vs Blue Jays preview.
