At 7-2, the New York Giants have been one of the most surprising teams in the NFL this season. They will try to keep their momentum going when they host the Detroit Lions on Sunday afternoon. The Lions may be 3-6 but they are actually in the midst of a 2-game winning streak after beating the Packers and Bears.

Here are our predictions and best bets for this Lions-Giants showdown.

Detroit Lions vs New York Giants expert picks

We have 2 NFL picks for this week’s clash between the Lions and Giants. Let’s take a look.

Against the spread pick: Lions +3 over Giants (-110)

In Week 10 Detroit outscored Chicago 21-6 in the 4th quarter and erased a 2-score deficit to earn the first road victory of the head coach Dan Campbell era. Meanwhile, New York needed every ounce of Saquon Barkley’s 152-yard effort on 35 carries to get past a moribund Houston team. Dameon Pierce of the Texans averaged more than 5 yards per carry in that contest and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a healthy stable of Lions RBs having similar success behind an offensive line that is top 10 in run-block win rate in 2022.

Another difference could be the Lions’ defense, which is trending in the right direction over the last 2 weeks. Rookie DE Aidan Hutchinson, the #2 overall pick, continues to improve and is looking like a bona fide star on the edge. As for the Giants, they are painfully average in almost every category – including being outside the top 15 in all 4 win-rate categories (pass rush, pass block, run block and run stop). We are taking Detroit plus the points.

Over/Under totals pick: Under 45.5 (-110)

New York head coach Brian Daboll and his staff deserve props of their team ranking 2nd in EPA/play in the 2nd half of games this season, which shows an obvious ability to make adjustments. That’s especially impressive considering a relative lack of talent, but the first half has been a struggle – as evidenced by the Giants only scoring an average over 7.4 points per 1st half – tied for the 2nd-lowest output in the NFL. In all likelihood both teams will lean on the run game heavily and the 1st half will stay under the total.

Weather could also be a factor on Sunday. As of Thursday morning the forecast calls for 15 to 20 mph winds at Met Life Stadium. That venue has been known for windy conditions this time of year, which almost always has a greater impact on scoring than rain or snow. For multiple reasons, the under looks like the play to make.
