The Philadelphia Eagles will be trying to bounce back from their first loss of the season when they visit the Indianapolis Colts in Week 11. Philadelphia had been the last undefeated team in the NFL, but the buck stopped at 8-0 with a surprising home loss to Washington on Monday Night Football. Indianapolis is 4-5-1 after winning its first game under interim head coach Jeff Saturday.

Here are our predictions and best bets for this Eagles-Colts showdown.

Philadelphia Eagles vs Indianapolis Colts expert picks

We have 2 NFL picks for this week’s clash between the Eagles and Colts. Let’s take a look.

Against the spread pick: Eagles -6.5 over Colts (-110)

Frank Reich’s firing wasn’t unexpected given the Colts’ disastrous start to the season. What was surprising was the arrival of Saturday, a former Colts center turned ESPN analyst, as interim head coach despite having zero coaching experience at the collegiate or professional levels. Teams who fire their coach come back the next game and either win outright or cover the spread roughly 60 percent of the time, and Indianapolis beat Las Vegas this past weekend. However, in most cases the brief rally lasts no more than 1 game and inferior teams with inferior game-plans come back down to Earth in swift fashion.

Saturday was a solid choice to ignite the fanbase and keep the seats filled at Lucas Oil Stadium, and he was a great motivator for an offensive line that helped the resurgence of Jonathan Taylor and Matt Ryan. But with no real system to implement and going from facing 1 of the worst teams in the league to 1 of the best, can success be sustained? Probably not. On the heels of their first loss, the Eagles should be able to make adjustments and contain a Colts rushing attack that has been inconsistent at best in 2022. On the other side of the ball, Philly will likely victimize a middling Indy pass defense. Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith are too talented to be contained. The Eagles look poised to prevail by at least a touchdown.

Over/Under totals pick: Over 43.5 (-110)

These 2 teams live on opposite sides of the over/under spectrum. The over is 6-3 in Eagles games this season and has hit in each of their last 4. For the Colts, the under is 8-2. Is Philadelphia’s potent offense enough to push past a respectable Indianapolis run defense and middle-of-the-road pass defense? Can the Colts maintain rare momentum and expose an Eagles run defense that struggled last week?

The answers to those questions are yes and no. The Eagles took their first loss of the season last week because they played a sloppy, undisciplined game. Maybe they were looking past the Commanders, a team that they manhandled 24-8 back in the third game of the season. Indy may boast a better secondary than Washington, but Philly is not going to fall into the same traps. Don’t be surprised if both Brown and Smith have big days hauling in passes from hurts. Meanwhile, the Colts are going to try and attack the Eagles in the same way the Commanders did. You are going to see a lot of Jonathan Taylor, and also expect Saturday to keep his offensive line motivated and playing well. This isn’t a huge number, so the over is our play.
