Wise n' Shine: What you need to know to bet better on Wednesday, August 3
Welcome to another wonderful Wednesday of sport, Pickswise Nation. The MLB trade deadline (and more NFL disciplinary measures) brought us plenty of drama yesterday, and today we have a full MLB slate and MLS games to entertain us. Let’s get straight to making your next bet better!
About Last Night
Soto switch headlines MLB deadline moves
The off-field action was as interesting as the games themselves in the MLB yesterday, and if you missed the news, we have all you need to get up to speed with Juan Soto’s trade from the Nationals to the Padres, and how the World Series odds changed after all the day’s trades.
Dodgers success makes it 4 MLB best bet wins in a row
The Pickswise 3-star play of Dodgers ML cashed easily as LA won 9-5, giving us a 4-0 run on MLB Best Bets stretching back to Friday. The Padres’ spirits were clearly high as they beat the Rockies 13-5 and 3-2 in their doubleheader, the Nationals upset the Mets 5-1, the Mariners beat the Yankees 8-6 and the Red Sox got past the Astros 2-1.
Early games across Major League Baseball
There’s a lot of afternoon action in the MLB today, with the Blue Jays and Rays getting us going at 12:10 pm ET and Phillies vs Braves on ESPN+ at 12:20 pm ET. The 15-game slate runs right through to the Dodgers taking on the Giants at 9:45 pm ET. You can read all our previews for today’s MLB games.

Best Bet of the Day
MLB: Milwaukee Brewers -1.5 vs Pittsburgh Pirates
7:05 pm ET
The Brewers are out to build their lead in the NL Central and should fare far better than they did in last night’s series opener, which they lost 5-3. One of the key players who has helped them is former Pirate Andrew McCutchen, who always enjoys getting revenge on his former team. He and the rest of the Milwaukee lineup should be able to do so against Pittsburgh’s Tyler Beede. The Brewers welcome back starter Freddy Peralta, who had his breakout season in 2021 and was in the midst of a great 5-game stretch before his injury. The Brewers have won each of his last 3 starts against Pittsburgh and should make it 4 straight in his return. Read our full Brewers vs Pirates preview.
Lauren Jbara and Jared Smith are your hosts for an action-packed show today. They’ll be joined by two guests, with Anwar Richardson, Texas Longhorns football writer for Rivals.com and OrangeBloods.com, joining the show to preview the Big 12 season. Then our awesome golf betting analyst Diane Knox Balas, fresh from her 14/1 Rocket Mortgage Classic winner Tony Finau, will also be along to preview the Wyndham Championship.
The team will also chew over all the MLB trade news and give their best bets for today’s MLB games before revealing their Plays of the Day.
You can also access the show through Spotify and Apple Podcasts (search for Let’s Bet It Presented By Pickswise).
Diane Knox Balas has the best bets and insights for the Wyndham Championship and our EPL season preview is also ready to read.

Quote of the Day
“Definitely had some nerves early on. But it’s been a year-plus since I’ve been out there, so it was definitely exciting.”
Jacob deGrom impressed in his return to action after injury, even though the Mets’ bullpen let him down in a 5-1 loss to the Nationals.
